Revolution House takes it's name from the revolution of 1688, when this cottage was an alehouse called the Cock and Pynot and where three local noblemen, the Earl of Devonshire, the Earl of Danby and Mr John D'Arcy met and began planning events which led to the overthrow of King James11 in favour of William and Mary of Orange.

This 209 acre reservoir provides footpaths and nature walks which link to Calke Abbey. A new visitors centre includes an information room with exhibits and 3-D models.

Steeple Grange Light Railway, Near Wirksworth
An 18 inch gauge line built on the trackbed of a branch of the old Cromford and High Peak Railway - now the High Peak Trail
The railway normally runs on Sundays from the start of April until the end of October, as well as Saturdays in July, August and September, and extra days on Bank Holiday weekends. See the calendar and Special Events listings on website.
Opening hours are 12 noon until 5pm. The railway will operate at other times by special arrangement for groups and private parties.
The railway may not operate if the weather is inclement, so please contact us if you are in any doubt, especially if travelling from a distance.
